Eyesight a True Blessing

Eyesight a True Blessing

The importance of your sense of vision, your , has been rammed home to me over the past fortnight. I had a corneal graft a couple of decades ago in one eye, which worked but I still need contact lenses. A couple of weeks ago the blood vessels on the front of my eye managed to find the graft and immediately tried to kill it as a foreign body. My eye was soon a mess and I was losing vision in that eye fast, as far as failing the how many fingers am I hold up test. Well it was correctly diagnosed and treated quickly, with strong steroids to inhibit the rejections, and I am well on the road to being to see with two eyes. What a blessing sight is!

Above is a I painted of my grafted some years ago. So I guess it is a type of . I use a similar image, but a photograph, as by avatar on google+

The joys of hand colouring photos

The joys of hand colouring photos

I spent a great afternoon learning a little about hand colouring photos at a workshop run by Janina Green at the Monash Gallery of Art. Hand colouring precious photos was once an important aspect of preserving family memories or postcards for tourist, but it can be a wonderful way to add originality (and extra value, not just sentimental) to a photographic image.

A bit of nostalgia

A bit of nostalgia

My trial of Perfect Photo Suite 9 had not been progressing well, I was running up against an 1018 error which relates to Open/GL 2 support and the graphics card. My toshiba laptop having two graphics cards an standard intel and the higher performing Nvidia GeForce but alas I was only seeing the intel driver and the 1018 error or a warning about Open/GL support. A fair bit of research and asking the right question to OnOne support has got me through this serious "trial" of my patience.

Anyway I noticed that amongst the presets in Suite 9 is a comprehensive set of slide film emulating filtes. Slide film was great it bought a true luminescence to photos, particularly landscapes, but at the same time it was very demanding, even half a stop out and you could "blow the highlights" or a stop under exposed and you would have gloom. However in between was a magic place full of rich colour.

Trying out the trial of Perfect Photo Suite 9

Trying out the trial of Perfect Photo Suite 9

I thought it was time to investigate the features (particularly browsing) of the Upgrade to Perfect Photo Suite 9. Downloading the trial version is the perfect way to get a feel for the software before (and If) you buy. Most of the better photo software suppliers also offer trial versions

Waiting for that magic sunrise/sunset

Waiting for that magic sunrise/sunset

Last week's theme for the patch was landscape & sunrise/sunsets and I had planned to get a shot looking at the rising of setting sun reflected in the Jell's Park Lake. I didn't try every opportunity each day but unfortunately the days and times I did had very ordinary lighting. There was plenty else going on like a large number of ibis flying into roost on the small island towards the center of this image.

This was an auto-awesome panorama served up by google+ and a vintage look with a deckle edge.

Sometimes you can't get exactly what you want but it should not stop you experimenting with opportunities.

I got up early this morning, to try and get a good Photo for this week's The Patch Theme. I was not quiet in the right position but I did like the result of this image through the reeds in google+'s Autoawesome .
